Withernsea Lighthouse - Part of the lighthouse illustration series (with yet another ghost story)

This is an illustration of Withernsea lighthouse, part of my lighthouse illustration series. But before I provide you with the background and history of Withernsea lighthouse, I must remind you that it will also, yet again, include a ghost story, however this blog post does omit any mention of egg sandwiches.. oh hang too late, I've mentioned egg sandwiches again... oh rats! Read on to find out more about Withernsea lighthouse.

Withernsea Lighthouse is a historic structure located in the small town of Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Built in 1894, the lighthouse is 38 meters tall and was designed to help guide ships safely into the Humber Estuary. Although the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1976, it remains a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the town's rich maritime heritage.

Over the years, Withernsea Lighthouse has gained a reputation as a haunted site, with many visitors reporting paranormal activity. One of the most famous ghost stories associated with the lighthouse is that of a former lighthouse keeper, who is said to have committed suicide by jumping from the top of the tower. Some visitors claim to have seen the ghostly figure of the keeper, dressed in old-fashioned clothing, walking around the base of the lighthouse or climbing the stairs to the top of the tower.
